Brilliant the Rapper was born in 1970 as Boswell Jergin Hawthorne.

He began rapping in 1988 just after he graduated from high school. He was the valedictorian of Straford Academy in Hardaway, Maddocha.

He was a well-known rapper in the city and surrounding area. His big break came in 1992 when he met Tony Sindelar who was the manager of a group called The Shades.

Tony Sindelar became Brilliant's manager.  Brilliant signed with K-3080 Records in late 1991.
